And I’m Brook, your not-so-friendly, self-declared comics expert.
We’re two comic nerds with a lot of opinions and we think it’s important to know your history if we want to understand why comics are the way they are. That and our shared passions for research and art critique led to making this podcast we are so excited to share with you!
So let's talk a bit about ourselves.
I'm Steph. As I mention in my intro, I'm an archivist and historian with a focus on mid-to-late 20th Century American social movements. I got into comics when I was a middle schooler, lured in by animated cartoons like Teen Titans and Young Justice, only to spiral into larger interests in both DC and Marvel, as well as an avid interest in comic strips, and now webcomics. My early intro comics include things like Gotham Central, Booster Gold, and She-Hulk, and am always excited to share both my copies and my knowledge!
As for me, Brook, I grew up in a family of comic book fans and general nerds. My father and uncle in particular helped start me on my comic book hobby by sharing their own collections. I was feverishly following the 90s adventures of Thor and Spider-Man thanks to them. I began to buy my own comic of choice by 7 years-old: Archie's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures. Over the years I expanded my interests, made many friends, and generally came to enjoy sharing my comic collections and knowledge with others.
Our friendship has been born out of internet shenanigans, funny stories, and lots of screaming over shared emotions.
And now we're bringing that energy to you!
